Five Lessons We Can Learn From David and Goliath
The story of David and Goliath teaches powerful lessons about courage, faith, preparation and confidence in God.
The story of David and Goliath is one of the most familiar stories in Scripture, but its message continues to speak to believers today.
1. Do not measure your strength by your circumstances
Goliath appeared impossible to defeat, but David did not focus on the size of the giant. He focused on the greatness of God.
2. Remember what God has already done
Before facing Goliath, David remembered how God had helped him protect his father's sheep. His past experiences with God strengthened his confidence.
3. Do not allow other people's fear to become your own
The army of Israel was afraid, but David refused to allow their fear to determine his response.
4. Use what God has placed in your hands
David did not try to become someone else. He used the tools and abilities he already had.
5. Give God the glory
David understood that victory would come from God. His confidence was not in the stone or the sling but in the Lord.
The battle is the LORD'S. — 1 Samuel 17:47
Whatever giant you are facing today, remember that your circumstances do not determine the greatness of your God.
